Position Description: Imaging Application Developer

Job Summary

This position is a senior development role focused on making value adding functionality developed by university researchers available to remote clients using a software-as-a-service deployment model. Working together with a cloud architect and DevOps engineer, this role has the primary responsibility for advancing code from the research environment to a commercial grade software product following the established quality management system which maintains compliance with FDA and other regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Support architecture, design, and implementation of a SaaS solution that provides imaging services to remote clients, following FDA regulations for medical device development.
  2. Diagnose and trouble shoot image quality, algorithm performance, and service related issues to determine root causes and corrective measures.
  3. Test existing algorithms on radiation therapy data sets, analyze results against reference data sets, and characterize disease anomalies that affect current algorithm performance
  4. Collaborate with research teams to identify potential enhancements to advance the state-of- the-art in automatic anatomical recognition.
  5. Design and implement a test automation program that supports continuous integration, build, and deployment pipelines (CI/CD)
  6. Establish a secure cloud based deployment capable of authentication, queueing, and scaling its capacity and computations to sustain compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
  7. Establish operational monitoring and alerts for: routine job processing, service events, outages, and security events.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science or engineering;
  • Knowledge and experience in medical imaging, image recognition, and segmentation;
  • Knowledge and experience in Deep Learning (DL) and fully connected convolutional neuralnetworks (FCN);
  • Familiar with AWS infrastructure services for networking (VPC/subnets, NAT gateways), security groups/firewalls, identity and access management (IAM), computing and storage components (EC2, S3) and associated scripts;
  • Familiar with Docker on AWS, and associated tools (CodeCommit/Build/Deploy);
  • Knowledge and experience in software development in C/C++/Python/Matlab, preferred;
  • Familiar with DICOM and DICOM–RT standards for imaging and radiation therapy workflows;
  • Experience with test automation mechanisms;
  • Familiar with radiation therapy planning and treatment clinical workflows;

Position Description: DevOps Engineer

Job Summary

This position is an infrastructure developer and operations role focused on establishing and maintaining cloud based development, testing, and production environments for medical applications. Working together with a cloud architect and Application Developers, this role has the primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining access to secure network configurations, deploying application instances using Docker technology on AWS, developing scripts to enable the solution to scale, and monitoring operational performance of the production environment.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Support architecture, design, and implementation of a cloud based service that provides imaging services to remote clients, following FDA regulations for medical device development.
  2. Establish and maintain a secure cloud based deployment capable of authentication, queueing, and scaling its capacity and computations to sustain compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
  3. Diagnose and trouble shoot infrastructure issues, application performance in production, and service related issues to determine root causes and corrective measures.
  4. Establish SLAs and service agreements with vendors to ensure optimal performance while minimizing operational costs.
  5. Collaborate with developers to identify potential enhancements to CI/CD services and procedures.
  6. Design and implement test automation that supports system qualification and release to production processes, using continuous integration, build, and deployment pipelines (CI/CD)
  7. Establish operational monitoring and alerts for: routine job processing, service events, outages, and security events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience in computer science or engineering;
  • AWS Certifications in Developer, SysOps, and Solution Architecture preferred
  • Familiar with AWS infrastructure services for networking (VPC/subnets, NAT gateways),security groups/firewalls, identity and access management (IAM);
  • Familiar with computing and storage components (EC2, S3) and associated scripts;
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Familiar with Docker on AWS, and associated tools (CodeCommit/Build/Deploy);
  • Knowledge and experience in software development in C/C++/Python/Matlab, preferred;
  • Familiar with DICOM and DICOM–RT standards for imaging and radiation therapy workflows;
  • Experience with test automation mechanisms;

Position Description: Medical Image Analysis Intern/Co-op

Job Summary

Prepare and maintain medical imaging database for development of image segmentation algorithms to automatically locate objects and delineate them in medical images of patients before and after radiation therapy. Evaluate the quality of image data. Provide feedback to improve database management.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Prepare and test radiation therapy imaging data sets, analyze results against reference data sets, and characterize disease anomalies that affect current algorithm performance;
  2. Score and classify medical imaging data;
  3. Contour and annotate anatomical objects in medical images;
  4. Aid the development of image segmentation algorithms implemented in Medical Image Processing Group (MIPG) at University of Pennsylvania;
  5. Discuss modifications of database management based on an understanding of the underlying algorithms;

Qualifications

  • Student pursuing B.S. or M.S. in Bio-engineering or other relevant science program;
  • Knowledge and experience in medical imaging and image processing;
  • Ability to work with clinical personnel for gathering image data, understanding requirements, and validating results;
  • Knowledge and experience with Linux;
  • Familiar with industry standards for imaging (DICOM) and hospital systems (HL7) preferred;
  • Experience with test automation mechanisms that reduce manual labor is preferable;
  • Interest in and exposure to machine learning, deep learning, and/ or pattern recognition is a plus.
